ILOCOS NORTE - A political analyst questioned the "slow decision-making" process of the Supreme Court on the burial of former President Ferdinand Marcos in the Libingan ng mga Bayani. In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Atty. Manuel Aurelio said Marcos' burial is a "very simple issue" that could have been resolved easily.

"I hope that the Supreme Court will finally resolve the issue whether to bury Marcos or not because the issue is so simple--those who will be interred or buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani are the following: soldiers, former presidents. He was a soldier, he was a former president, so what is the difficult issue to resolve. The issue is very simple," he said. He also said the Supreme Court should interpret the law and not base its decision on people's reactions. Aurelio said the Supreme Court may be playing it safe and is probably testing the water with its orders on the Marcos case.

"If I see that more [people] like it, I will order the burial, but if I see that more do not like it, for my safety, I will not order the burial. But that is a weak Supreme Court! That's a weak Supreme Court," he said. Should the Supreme Court decide to further extend the status quo ante order (SQAO) on the interment of Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, then the justices are all cowards and weak, Aurelio said.

"In case the Supreme Court will again postpone it, I will look at the Supreme Court as a coward Supreme Court, not brave enough to impose the law. That's not good for a court! And for the Supreme Court, it is not good because the Supreme Court is the last court of legal resort," he stressed. The Supreme Court extended its SQAO until November 8. The first extension was made last October 18.
