Senator Leila de Lima on Tuesday appealed to law enforcement to treat her former driver and alleged bagman Ronnie Dayan right.

[With the arrest of Ronnie Dayan, I am hoping that he will be treated right by authorities.

I ask the President to do the same with other witnesses who will testify against me, including Kerwin Espinosa.]

Dayan surrendered to authorities in La Union on Tuesday after months in hiding. He went missing after he was accused of receiving drug money from Bilibid inmates meant for De Lima's 2016 senatorial campaign.

De Lima last week admitted her past romantic affair with Dayan, but maintained that she never accepted drug payoffs.

"Sa pangunguna ni Pangulong Duterte, pilit ding inuungkat ang inamin kong naging relasyon kay Ronnie Dayan upang paniwalain ang publiko na naging bagman ko raw siya," she said on Tuesday.

[With President Duterte's lead, they keep harping on my admission of our affair to make the public believe that he was my bagman.]

But De Lima said authorities should just focus on her instead of other people. "Ako naman talaga ang habol ninyo.

Huwag na ninyo silang pahirapan pa, mga kriminal man sila o hindi," she said. [I am the one you are after. Don't make them suffer, whether they are criminals or not.]

The House of Representatives said they expect Dayan and Espinosa, an alleged drug lord and the son of slain Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr., to testify in their inquiry into the narcotics trade.

In the same inquiry, several convicted crime bosses said De Lima asked them to sell illegal drugs. De Lima, however, has repeatedly denied this.

[I never received a cent from illegal drugs. In my entire life, especially during my government service, I have never benefited from any corruption because I don't want to ever betray the trust of the people.]

She also earlier accused the administration of using psychological torture on inmates to force them to fabricate false testimonies against her.
