Leaders of the House of Representatives on Tuesday filed before the Senate Secretary a show cause order against Senator Leila de Lima for her failure to face the House inquiry on the drug trade in the national penitentiary.

De Lima has 72 hours to explain her alleged involvement in the trade and why she should not be cited in contempt for "exerting undue influence" to Dayan.

House Committee on Justice Chairman Reynaldo Umali earlier said the order also stems from De Lima's move to discourage her former lover-driver and alleged bagman, Ronnie Dayan, from appearing at the investigation.

House Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas said lawmakers will raise the issue before the Supreme Court and the Senate Ethics Committee if they not satisfied with De Lima's answer.

Fariñas explained, they respect the Senate but they need De Lima's explanation because it would not be fair that Dayan was ordered arrested, while De Lima did not face the congressional inquiry.

Despite this, no arrest warrant will be issued as Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez said, and they will leave it to the Senate to discipline the senator.

"Bahala na ang Senate to impose sanctions but we wil ask that they impose disciplinary action against their member," said Fariñas.
