MANILA - Leaders of the House of Representatives on Tuesday called for Ronnie Dayan, the former security aide and alleged bagman of Senator Leila De Lima, to appear in their investigation on the alleged narcotics trade inside the state penitentiary.

During House previous hearings, witnesses accused Dayan of collecting money from detained inmates to fund De Lima's senatorial run.

Dayan turned himself in to authorities in San Juan, La Union before Tuesday noon, police said.

"That's good news. Dapat [siyang] dalhin sa Committee on Justice," House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez said in a text message to reporters.

House Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas, meanwhile, said Dayan will have to be brought before the Speaker who issued the warrant for his arrest "and will testify before the Committee on Justice."

The Justice Committee already terminated its probe but endorsed Dayan's case to a subcommittee in case he is arrested.

The House ordered Dayan's arrest after he failed to show up at the hearing of the Lower House.

But De Lima's fellow Liberal Party stalwart, Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman, is worried about what will happen, expressed concern that Dayan may be coerced into fabricating stories.

"It all depends whether Dayan had already been apprehended or arrested. It will also depend on what will be his testimony.

It's hard to anticipate but he might be coerced to testify against those which have been charged by the administration for involvement in the narcotics trade that should make us worry and wary," he said.
