MANILA - Self-confessed hitman Edgar Matobato on Friday asked the Ombudsman to investigate President Rodrigo Duterte and several others over their alleged involvement in vigilante killings.

Matobato filed a complaint for murder and kidnapping against Duterte, his eldest son, Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte, Philippine National Police Chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa and 25 others.

The complaint was submitted to the Ombudsman by matobato's lawyer, lawyer Jude Sabio. Sabio acknowledged that Duterte was immune from suit as President but he said it was up to the Ombudsman to take action.

In the complaint, Matobato alleged that Duterte, as Davao City mayor, formed a group a hit squad called the "Lambada Boys" or or DDS in 1998. Matobato said the DDS killed suspected criminals such as drug pushers and addicts, thieves, rapists and snatchers.

More than 1,000 people were killed by the group between 1998 and 2013, he alleged.. Sabio claimed they even have witnesses who saw Duterte personally shoot a victim.

Matobato first appeared publicly in a Senate inquiry, tagging Duterte in hundreds of murders of alleged criminals and political foes.

The self-confessed hitman reportedly approached Senator Leila de Lima, who is currently at odds with Duterte over extra-judicial killings, so that he can testify before the chamber.
