DONA REMEDIOS TRINIDAD, Bulacan - Vice-President Leni Robredo said she was not invited to watch the Miss Universe 2016 pageant on Monday.
"Hindi e. Hindi ako imbitado," was her quick answer when reporters asked if she will watch the coronation night at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Robredo was among the judges in the 2015 Binibining Pilipinas pageant, where she asked Pia Wurtzbach about the power of social media and internet censorship.
The same pageant enthroned Wurtzbach as the country's representative to the Miss Universe, which became her ticket to Las Vegas and eventually taking home the crown for the Philippines. This time, however, Robredo will not be attending the event which sells a VIP seat for P50,000.
Robredo was in the town of Dona Remedios Trinidad, Bulacan Friday morning, pushing her "Angat Buhay" program. The program seeks to link the private sector and non-government organizations with less-fortunate communities.
The mission is to push development in communities not able to access government service. "Yung sa atin talaga, yung kapital lang natin, laway saka sipag. Ina-aya natin talaga mga pribadong organisasyon na meron ding mga programa, naghahanap ng tutulungan. Ayun sinasama natin sila para makita nila yung problema on the ground. Sa mga bisitang ganito, marami tayong nakukuhang partnerships," Robredo said.
According to Robredo, her program does not seek to compete with government work. In fact, according to the the vice president, their effort is one way of moving the private sector to help the government.
Robredo was accompanied on this trip by representatives from organizations wanting to help communities. These include Nutrition Foundation of the Philippines, Hapagasa, Ayala Foundation, Friendly Care Foundation, Solanaland Foundation, Damascus, and Pilipinas Shell Foundation.
She cited the community in Sito Abo of Barangay Pulong-Sampaloc of this town where their program seeks to help on the aspect of women's health for mothers and providing nutrition for malnourished children. "Nag-pledge kami ng commitment na tumulong sa 1st 100 days ng DOH, eto yun, yung nutrition" said Robredo.
