MANILA - Senator Leila de Lima wants to be placed in a "safe and secure" detention center if she is arrested in connection with the looming resolution of her drug trafficking cases. De Lima, in a chance interview, expressed fear that she may become a victim of extra-judicial killings.
"Sakali pong mangyari, God forbid, sana ilagay ako sa isang lugar na safe and secure ako. Maraming nangyayari sa mga selda. What is another case of EJK?" she said. (If it happens, God forbid, I hope I would be placed in a somewhere safe and secure. A lot happens in jail cells. What is another case of EJK?)
The opposition lawmaker earlier alleged that Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre is rushing the filing of charges against her for her supposed involvement in the Bilibid drug trade. Aguirre did not deny the possibility of bringing the case to a regular court so that an arrest warrant will be issued against De Lima.
De Lima maintained her innocence and vowed no to resist any arrest warrant that may be issued against her "Hindi po ako tatakas, hindi ako magtatago, hindi ako magne-neck brace," de Lima said. (I won't flee, I won't hide, I won't wear a neck brace.)
