Vice President Leni Robredo said Tuesday her camp committed a mistake when they decided not to comment on fake news and intrigues spreading online.

"We have learned how to drown out the noise and focus on what we need to do... Mukhang nagkamali kami sa strategy. In the sense na pag pinabayaan, yung sinungaling nagiging totoo," Robredo said.

(We have learned how to drown out the noise and focus on what we need to do... It seems we made a mistake in this strategy in the sense that if you let them be, the lies become the truth.)

Robredo said they initially thought unfounded facts will "eventually die a natural death," but was proven wrong after attacks and false information against her office continued to spread on social media.

"Mula kasi nung naging very strong yung social media, parang yung atake hindi na lang galing sa isang direksyon, yung atake galing na sa lahat," she said. (Since social media became very strong, the attack started to come from all directions.)

The vice president said her camp is now making an effort to correct all misleading information. "Hindi nagma-matter kung ilan yung nakikinig sa iyo... Kailangan pa din iwasto yung mali. So ngayon, kahit pa drowned out pa din kami, pag mali kailangang i-correct."

(It doesn't matter how many are listening to you... You still need to correct the mistakes. So now, even if we are drowned out, if we see an error, we make it a point to correct it.) Robredo did not identify the misinformation spreading about her but some "fake stories" included news of her supposed pregnancy.
