Supporters of President Rodrigo Duterte from all over the country will gather at Rizal Park on February 25 for a vigil and rock concert in support of the President's campaign against illegal drugs and corruption, the Department of the Interior and Local Government said Wednesday.
In a press conference, DILG Assistant Secretary Epimaco Densing said the gathering at Quirino Grandstand will not focus on other events commemorating the 31st anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution.
"Although may EDSA Day celebration, hindi natin fino-focus ang atensyon namin dun. Fino-focus natin ang atensyon sa ating pagsuporta sa ating Pangulo sa kanyang pananaw na kailangang matigil na ang iligal na droga at kailangang matigil na ang korapsyon at malabanan ang kahirapan sa ating bayan," he said.
Densing said pro-Duterte groups from all over the country will join a vigil and rock concert on February 25. "There will be a vigil, prayers and a concert," he said.
"Kaya natin ginagawa yun sa 25th dahil mayroon tayong mga kasama na nanggaling pa ho ng Visayas at Mindanao. Pupunta lang po sa Luneta para makiisa sa atin."
He added that supporters from Pampanga, Bulacan, Maynila, Makati, Pasay, Paranaque and other areas will also join a march scheduled on February 26.
SIMPLE EDSA RITES
Palace officials earlier said the commemoration of the 31st EDSA People Power Revolution will be "simple and quiet" as the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte opts to "move on from just celebrating the past."
The upcoming EDSA anniversary celebration will be low-key compared to previous years as it will be done within Camp Aguinaldo instead of its usual venue at the People Power monument at the corner of White Plains and EDSA in Quezon City.
The government is also doing away with the usual program and "Salubungan" at the EDSA People Power Monument in Quezon City to give Filipinos more time to reflect about the causes and effects of the historic revolution.
