Senator Antonio Trillanes again challenged President Rodrigo Duterte to bare his bank transaction history to disprove allegations that the President had bank transactions amounting to P2.407 billion.
"President Duterte, marami ka pang sinasabi. Kung talagang wala kang itinatagong nakaw na yaman, tanggapin mo na ang hamon ko at buksan mo na yung transaction history ng bank accounts," Trillanes said in a statement, adding that he would resign if his claim is proven false. (President Duterte, you talk too much.
If you are really not hiding ill-gotten wealth, accept my challenge and open the transaction history of your bank accounts.)
Trillanes said he would not comment on Duterte's insults against him, saying he will not let the Chief Executive deviate from the issue at hand. "Tungkol naman sa mga pagiinsulto nya sa akin, hindi ko na sya papatulan.
Pero hindi ko rin hahayaan na ilihis nya yung issue," he said. (About his insults against me, I won't give it the time of day. But I will not let him divert the issue to something else.) Duterte earlier debunked Trillanes' allegation that he had amassed ill-gotten wealth, saying he and his family earned money through legitimate means.
He said that his daughter Sara, a lawyer by profession and is now mayor of Davao City, earned through legitimate transactions with her clients. Duterte also revealed that his common-law wife, Honeylet Avancena, started her doughnut business 18 years ago and is currently supplying meat to five malls in Davao. "Siya iyung nagsu-supply ng karne ng baboy.
Ganyan kalaki ang pera ng babaeng iyan," Duterte said. (She supplies pork. That's how huge her money is.) Duterte also said his late father, Vicente Duterte, a former governor of Davao, left them with inheritance.
Trillanes said he had filed a plunder case against Duterte back in 2016, using the same documents regarding the President's allegedly "questionable bank transactions."
He called out the Ombudsman to speed up the proceedings. "Kaya nananawagan din ako sa Ombudsman na paspasan na ang imbestigasyon nila tungkol dito," he said.
